1968 Topps Complete Set (598)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $10,800
70% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 23% Ex-Mt, and 7% Ex. Presented is an extremely crisp, clean, and overall remarkably high-grade complete set of 1968 Topps, highlighted by stunning high-grade examples of the rookie cards of HOFers Nolan Ryan and Johnny Bench. The 1968 Topps set also includes the extremely popular “combo” cards featuring more than one player with #480 Superstars (with Roberto Clemente), #490 Superstars (Harmon Killebrew, Mickey Mantle, and Willie Mays), and #530 Bird Belters (Frank and Brooks Robinson). Consigned by the family of an old-time collector, this set has been carefully stored away for decades and was very likely assembled directly out of packs in the year of issue. This is a beautiful set with many extremely high-grade cards. We have selected seven cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #20 B. Robinson (Nr/Mt), 45 Seaver (Ex), 50 Mays (NM/MT 88), 80 Carew (Ex), 100 Gibson (Nr/Mt+), 110 Aaron (VG/EX+ 55), 145 Drysdale (Ex-Mt), 150 Clemente (NM/MT 88), 177 Ryan RC (NM/MT 88), 220 Killebrew (Nr/Mt-Mt), 230 Rose (Ex-Mt), 240 Kaline (Nr/Mt-Mt), 247 Bench RC (NM/MT+ 92), 250 Yastrzemski (Nr/Mt-Mt), 280 Mantle (NM/MT+ 92), 330 Maris (Ex), 355 Banks (Ex), 408 Carlton (Ex), 480 Manager's Dream (Ex), 490 Superstars (NM+ 86), 500 F. Robinson (Nr/Mt+), 520 Brock (Ex-Mt), 528 Tigers (Ex-Mt), 530 Bird Belters (Ex), and 575 Palmer (Nr/Mt). Also included are seven checklist variations for cards #69, 109, 192, 278, 356, 454, and 518. Spectacularly clean and crisp high-grade set with the usual number of mostly minor centering problems, which accounts for the downgrades on almost all the cards graded Ex or Ex-Mt. The equivalent SMR value for just six of the seven graded cards (factoring in the three half-grades at the lower whole-grade level and not including the one card graded less than EX or the 591 ungraded cards!) is $2,775. Total: 605 cards (complete set of 598 plus seven variations). SOLD FOR $10,800
