1958 Hires Root Beer Complete Set Without Tabs (66) Plus Extras!

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $960

Complete set of sixty-six different 1958 Hires Root Beer cards, all with perforated tabs removed. Also included with this complete set are two original bottle caps, a mail-away club card, and a Hires premium How To Play Baseball book, all in outstanding condition. Hires Root Beer cards were designed to be issued one card per six-pack of Hires Root Beer. The cards were produced with easily removable perforated tabs at the bottom advertising membership in the Hires Baseball Club and a copy of the book How To Play Baseball. The tabs were intended to be removed from the card and sent to Hires along with two bottle caps and ten cents to take advantage of the advertised offer. The complete set grades overall Ex to Ex-Mt, with two lesser. Centering is responsible for keeping these cards from grading higher, as many of the cards are centered close to the top or bottom edges (which is typical for 1958 Hires Root Beer cards). The cards vary slightly in size, up to 1/4-inch each way, as is also typical for this issue, and some display a slight miscut to the top border, also common. Keys: #10 Ashburn (Ex), 13 Newcombe (Ex-Mt), 17 Doby (Ex), 23 Reese (Ex-Mt), 25 Mays (Ex), 34 Labine (Ex), 36 Mazeroski (Ex), 41 Zimmer (Vg-Ex), 42 Podres (Ex), 44 Aaron (Ex), 46 Thomson (Ex), 55 Drysdale (Ex+), 61 Snider (Ex+), and 67 Kluszewski (Ex). Extremely crisp, clean, and attractive complete set (all without tabs) of this popular, scarce, and very unusual regional issue. Total: 66 cards plus book, club card, and two bottle caps.
