1955 Rawlings Stan Musial Glove Box Near-Complete Set (5/6)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $840
Presented are five of the six package-design cards featuring St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Stan Musial from his 1955 Rawlings Glove Box series. Although Musial did not have an active contract with mainstream card manufacturers like Bowman and Topps from 1954 to 1957, he did maintain several endorsement deals, including one with Rawlings. While kids could not find a baseball card of Stan Musual packaged with Topps or Bowman bubble gum in 1955, if one purchased a Rawlings Stan Musial model glove, you were rewarded with an entire set of Stan Musial cards! Six cards featuring Musial in a black-and-white photo set against a blue background were designed onto the sides of glove boxes and intended to be cut out and collected by children. The cards vary in size depending on their location on the box, ranging from 2 x 3 inches to 2.5 x 3.75 inches, and bear the tagline "A Rawlings Trading Card" underneath the image of Musial. This near-complete set is missing only #2 Musial/kneeling for completion. Each of the cards is neatly cut, with all but two cut entirely inside the dotted guidelines. It it likely that these cards would only grade "Authentic" if submitted for professional grading, but they present as Excellent overall, with #3 and 4 displaying creasing and thus technically grading lesser. An extremely attractive near-complete set of this 1950s card issue featuring Hall of Famer Stan Musial. Total: 5 cards. SOLD FOR $840
