1955 Topps Double Headers #69/70 Ted Williams/Hal Smith SGC NM/MT 88

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $960

Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Extremely high-grade example of #69/70 Ted Williams/Hal Smith from the 1955 Topps Double Headers set. Double Headers are one of the scarcest and most unusual of all early 1950s gum issues. The design of the set was inspired by the T201 “Double Folder” set issued by Mecca Tobacco in 1911. Pack-issued Double Headers were perforated horizontally, allowing for easy folding, so that each card could picture two ballplayers sharing the same legs. The offered example is an unperforated proof version which does not fold in the center. Incredibly bright, crisp, and fresh, with four sharp corners, vibrant colors, and near-perfect centering. Clean reverse. Tremendous high-grade example of Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Ted Williams, one of the key cards from this unusual and often overlooked early 1950s Topps series. SOLD FOR $960
