1952 Topps #407 Eddie Mathews Rookie Card

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,280

Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. In addition to being his rookie card, 1952 Topps card #407 Eddie Mathews is also one of only a few key Hall of Famers in the rare high-number series, and as the last card in the set, is also a condition rarity. Just as card #1 Pafko was subject to wear due to gravitating to the top of the pile, #407 Mathews was also subject to excessive wear at the bottom of the pile. In anything even resembling high grade, this has always been a very difficult card to find for anyone putting together a quality 1952 Topps set. The offered card is crisp and clean, with bold colors, a flawless image, and four strong corners. Centered to the left (approximately 10/90 L/R), this card is frequently encountered with side-to-side centering issues. The reverse of the card is perfectly clean. Extremely presentable example that would be at home in any 1952 Topps set or classic-card collection. SOLD FOR $2,280
