Pair of 1955 Topps Baseball Unopened Five-Cent Wax Packs
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $2,040
Presented is a very desirable pair of original unopened 1955 Topps five-cent wax packs. These packs almost certainly originate from Alan "Mr. Mint" Rosen's legendary 1987 Paris, Tennessee, unopened-box find. The material from that historic find is responsible for virtually all of the surviving unopened 1955 Topps (and 1955 Bowman) wax packs in the hobby today. Over time, these boxes and packs have virtually disappeared into private collections and many were no doubt opened. The bright multicolored packs display staining on front and back consistent with many of the packs from this extraordinary find. The large slab of gum is visible against the front of the wax wrapper of each pack, which are in otherwise Excellent condition (the seal on one pack has loosened and remains sealed in just one spot). The packs are from an unknown series and could possibly include beautifully preserved examples of the rookie cards of Roberto Clemente, Sandy Koufax, and Harmon Killebrew, or any of the many other Hall of Famers in the 206-card 1955 Topps set. It is a miracle that any packs of cards from more than half a century ago still exist in their original unopened state. This is an outstanding pair of unopened packs of 1955 Topps, one of the most popular of all early Topps issues. Total: 2 packs. SOLD FOR $2,040
