1956 Topps Complete "Super Master" Set (540 cards) Including All Gray Backs, White Backs, Team-Cards, and Checklists!

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $6,600

The 1956 Topps set has always been one of the most popular issues of the 1950s. Produced in the heart of the decade, the 1956 Topps set includes everyone from Aaron to Williams, all in brilliant, stunning color, and in an exciting horizontal design. Presented here is one of the most incredible 1956 Topps sets we have ever had the privilege of offering at auction! In fact, this is only the second complete "Super Master" 1956 Topps set we have ever offered. This set consists of a total of 540 cards and includes all gray backs, white backs, team-card variations, and checklists. This assembly is classified as a "super" set on the PSA Set Registry. The completion of a "super" set is an extraordinary collecting achievement as it involves a determined effort to track down countless variations along with the many Hall of Famers which must be purchased in duplicate.

A total of thirty-six cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA. Condition Composite: 1) Complete Set of Gray Backs (340 cards): Condition is 8% Ex-Mt or better, 82% Vg to Ex (averaging Vg-Ex), and 10% lesser (mostly Gd). Keys: #1 Harridge (Vg), 2 Giles (Vg-Ex), 5 Williams (EX-MT 6), 10 Spahn (NM 7), 15 Banks (Vg-Ex), 20 Kaline (trimmed, otherwise Vg-Ex), 30 Robinson (Fr), 31 Aaron (EX-MT 6), 33 Clemente (VG-EX 4), 79 Koufax (VG-EX 4), 101 Campanella (EX 5), 107 Mathews (trimmed, otherwise Vg-Ex+), 109 Slaughter (Fr), 110 Berra (EX-MT 6), 113 Rizzuto (Vg), 118 Fox (Ex), 120 Ashburn (Ex), 130 Mays (Vg-Ex+), 135 Mantle (VG-EX 4), 145 Hodges (NM 7), 150 Snider (Gd), 164 Killebrew (no top border, otherwise Vg), 165 Schoendienst (Fr), 166 Dodgers (Gd), 180 Roberts (Ex), 181 Martin (Vg), 187 Wynn (EX-MT 6), 194 Irvin (Gd), 195 Kell (no bottom border, otherwise Ex), 200 Feller (no bottom border, otherwise Ex+), 240 Ford (Ex), 250 Doby (no bottom border, otherwise Ex-Mt), 251 Yankees (EX 5), 255 Lemon (Ex+), 260 Reese (NM 7), 292 Aparicio RC (NM 7), 307 Wilhelm (Fr), and 332 Larsen (Ex). Keys: #1 Harridge (Gd+), 2 Giles (Vg-Ex+), 5 Williams (EX-MT 6), 10 Spahn (Vg+), 15 Banks (Vg+), 20 Kaline (EX-MT 6), 30 Robinson (EX+ 5.5), 31 Aaron (Vg+), 33 Clemente (Vg), 79 Koufax (NM 7 [OC]), 101 Campanella (EX-MT 6), 107 Mathews (Vg), 109 Slaughter (miscut, otherwise Vg-Ex), 110 Berra (miscut, otherwise Vg-Ex), 113 Rizzuto (Vg), 130 Mays (VG-EX 4), 118 Fox (trimmed, otherwise Vg-Ex+), 120 Ashburn (Vg+), 135 Mantle (VG-EX 4), 145 Hodges (Vg-Ex+), 150 Snider (Vg-Ex+), 164 Killebrew (Vg+), 165 Schoendienst (Gd/Vg), 166 Dodgers (EX 5), and 180 Roberts (Vg+). Other Graded Cards: #114 (EX-MT+ 6.5), 124 (NM 7), 133 (NM 7), 139 (EX-MT 6), and 157 (NM 7). 3) Team-Card Variations (18 cards): Name centered, name left, and dated variations for six team cards (#11, 72, 85, 90, 95, and 100). Condition is Vg-Ex to Ex, with two Vg, and seven lesser. 4) Checklists (2 cards): Checklist 1/3 (erased markings, otherwise Ex) and Checklist 2/4 (Pr/Fr).

The fact that this remarkable set has been assembled at all (there can't be too many sets of this ultimate completeness) and is being offered as a single unit, as opposed to breaking it up into a basic set and offering the variations separately, makes this a particularly extraordinary offering. For those who can consider buying a set of this unusual degree of completeness and breadth and who appreciate the enormous effort involved in its assembly, this represents a remarkable and rarely seen opportunity. The equivalent SMR value for just twenty-nine of the graded cards (not including the one qualified card, the six cards graded less than EX, or the 504 ungraded cards!) is $2,264. Total: 540 cards (set of 340, 180 white back variations, eighteen team-card variations, and two checklists). SOLD FOR $6,600
