1888 A36 Goodwin Champions Album - One of the Finest High-Grade Examples in Existence!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,600

Extraordinary ULTRA high-grade example of the 1888 A36 Goodwin & Company premium album featuring images of all fifty cards from the spectacularly colorful N162 Old Judge & Gypsy Queen series. Baseball players include Anson, Kelly, Keefe, Brouthers, Glasscock, Caruthers, Dunlap, and Andrews. Also included are an additional forty-two stars of the sporting world, including the iconic early football card of Beecher. The N162 Old Judge & Gypsy Queen tobacco cards featured in this album are universally regarded as among the most beautiful and desirable of all pre-1900 tobacco issues. While the N162 cards were issued in packs with tobacco, the far rarer premium albums could only be obtained by mail in exchange for coupons packed with Old Judge & Gypsy Queen brand tobacco. The offered example of this album has survived in remarkable condition. In fact, we believe it is the finest example we have ever offered! Bright colors. Tight binding. Clean covers (which are very condition-sensitive and so often subject to wear). Perfectly bright and clean interior pages, which include the original paper overlays to protect the images and preserve the pages. Both the front and back covers are fully intact, bright, and fresh, with only a few light spots of discoloration along the binding and light touches of wear to the corners (literally of no consequence but mentioned strictly for the sake of extreme accuracy as this example is in a condition so superior to what is normally encountered that noting it is appropriate). This is one the finest examples of this great album in existence! Extraordinary ultra high-grade example of this extremely attractive nineteenth-century classic, which in any condition represents one of the best values among all nineteenth-century baseball tobacco issues (and is a relatively affordable alternative to collecting the entire N162 set). The 1888 A36 Goodwin Champions Album is simply rarely (or perhaps never) seen in a condition even approaching the perfection of this outstanding world-class example. Spectacular Near Mint Condition! SOLD FOR $3,600
