1953 to 1955 Johnston Cookies Complete Set Collection (3 Sets, 95 Cards)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $960
Offered is a complete set run of all three sets of Johnston Cookies Braves cards, issued in 1953, 1954, and 1955. The regionally issued Johnston Cookies sets feature only Milwaukee Braves players. The 1954 set is especially noted for its inclusion of Hank Aaron in his rookie season (a card which is far rarer than the 1954 Topps Aaron rookie card). Cards were available in packages of Johnston Cookies and complete sets were also made available through a premium mail-in offer. Six cards are graded by SGC (submitted by REA). 1) 1953 Johnston Cookies Complete Set (25 cards): Overall condition is Ex with six Ex-Mt. Keys: #10 Spahn (SGC EX/NM+ 82), 17 Adcock (Ex-Mt), and 21 Mathews (SGC EX 60). 2) 1954 Johnston Cookies Complete Set (35 cards): Overall condition is 45% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 26% Ex, and 29% Vg-Ex. Keys: #5 Aaron (Vg+), 21 Spahn (Ex), 34 Thomson SP (SGC EX+ 70), and 41 Mathews (SGC EX/NM 80). 3) 1955 Johnston Cookies Complete Set (35 cards): Entire set is cut within the dotted lines and would therefore likely not grade numerically. (When originally sent by mail by the company, the 1955 cards were issued in "accordion" style strips and were intended to be cut apart.) Otherwise overall condition is 54% Ex to Ex-Mt and 46% Vg to Vg-Ex (two commons appear to be autographed). Keys: #21 Spahn (Gd), 41 Mathews (SGC "Authentic," otherwise Vg-Ex), and 44 Aaron (SGC "Authentic," otherwise Vg-Ex). This is very attractive trio of complete sets of these substantial, high-quality regionally issued cards, highlighted by the extremely important (and in our opinion extremely overlooked) regional rookie card of Hall of Famer Hank Aaron. Total: 3 sets, 95 cards. SOLD FOR $960
