1951 Topps "Blue Backs" Complete Set (52)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,800
Offered is a complete set of fifty-two 1951 Topps "Blue Backs." The 1951 "Blue Backs" set is extremely significant as it was the first major baseball-card set ever issued by Topps, along with the similarly styled "Red Backs" set. Thirty-one cards grade Ex to Ex-Mt, thirteen grade Vg-Ex, and eight grade lesser (mostly Vg). Keys: #1 Yost (Fr), 3 Ashburn (Vg-Ex+), 6 Schoendienst (Ex+), 9 Sain (Ex), 10 Page (Vg-Ex+), 20 Branca (Ex), 30 Slaughter (Ex-Mt), 37 Doerr (Ex+), 39 Lopat (Ex-Mt), 45 Pierce (Vg-Ex), 50 Mize (Ex), and 52 Chapman (Ex+). Though the cards in this set are technically in varying grades, across the board the cards certainly have a consistent bright, fresh, clean appearance, and one that is far better than suggested by the technically accurate assigned grades. This is an extremely attractive complete set! The 1951 "Blue Backs" Topps set is among the most significant, yet overlooked, of all early Topps cards, and in our opinion represents an extraordinary value. Total: 52 cards. SOLD FOR $1,800
