1954 Dan-Dee Potato Chips Complete Set (29)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,320
Complete set of these popular cards, which were issued one card per bag of Dan-Dee potato chips. Dan-Dees are usually found with serious condition problems relating to this method of issue, including creases and potato-chip grease stains despite the wax coating on the surface of these cards that was intended to protect them from grease staining. Since these cards were issued primarily in the Pittsburgh and Cleveland areas, it is not surprising the players featured are mostly Pirates and Indians, although the three New York area teams are also represented. We have selected three cards to be graded by SGC. Condition composite: Four cards grade Ex, six grade Vg-Ex, four grade Vg, and fifteen grade Pr to Gd. Keys: Doby (Pr), Feller (VG+ 45), Hodges (Gd), Irvin (Fr), Lemon (Ex), Lopez (Vg-Ex), Mantle (GOOD+ 35), Rizzuto (EX+ 70), Schoendienst (Vg+), Snider (Gd), and Wynn (Gd+). From a old-time collection, this is a very attractive mixed-grade (and therefore relatively affordable) complete set of one of the true classics of all 1950s regional food issues. Total: 29 cards.
