1953 Bowman Color Original-Owner Collection (62 Different) Including Musial and Reese

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $4,500

Collection of sixty-two different (out of 160 cards in set) 1953 Bowman Color cards, highlighted by several key Hall of Famers and stars, including Stan Musial, Roy Campanella, and Pee Wee Reese. The 1953 Bowman set has always been one of the most popular card issues of the era. These cards are from an original-owner collection consigned to this auction. They have been carefully saved by the consignor since the year of issue! The #59 Mickey Mantle card from the collection is offered individually as its own lot in this auction. Condition is 74% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt and 26% Ex (including three cards grading Gd/Vg). We have selected three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #1 Williams (Ex), 9 Rizzuto (Ex+), 10 Ashburn (NM 84), 18 Fox (Vg), 32 Musial (Vg-Ex+), 33 Reese (EX/NM+ 82), 36 Minoso (Nr/Mt), 40 Doby (Ex-Mt+), 46 Campanella (EX/NM 80), 51 Irvin (Ex-Mt+), 55 Durocher (Ex-Mt+), 57 Boudreau (Ex-Mt), 61 Kell (Nr/Mt), and 62 Kluszewski (Ex+). The additional cards included in this lot are #2-8, 11-17, 19-31, 34, 35, 37-39, 41-43. 45, 47-50, 52-54, 56, 58, 60, 63, and 64. This is a very attractive collection of cards from this classic 1950s gum-card issue, representing a substantial start towards the assembly of a mid- to high-grade set. The equivalent SMR value for just the three graded cards (factoring in the Reese at the lower whole-grade level and not including the fifty-nine ungraded cards) is $890. Total: 62 cards. SOLD FOR $4,500
