1953 Bowman Color Near-Complete Set (144/160)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,000
5% Nr/Mt, 85% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 10% Vg to Vg-Ex (including three cards lesser). This is a beautifully assembled near-complete set of 1953 Bowman Color consisting of 144 cards (out of 160). Missing only the following sixteen cards for completion: #20, 21, 59 Mantle, 81 Slaughter, 104, 115, 123, 128, 129, 139, 140, 141, 142, 144, 156, and 159. All cards within this set present with bright colors and crisp images. Eight cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA (all submitted by REA). Keys: #1 Williams (Ex), 9 Rizzuto (Ex+), 10 Ashburn (Ex-Mt), 18 Fox (Ex), 32 Musial (Gd), 33 Reese (EX 5), 40 Doby (Ex-Mt), 44 Bauer/Berra/Mantle ("Authentic," due to evidence of trimming, otherwise Nr/Mt), 46 Campanella (VG-EX+ 4.5), 51 Irvin (Vg-Ex+), 55 Durocher (Vg-Ex), 57 Boudreau (Ex-Mt), 61 Kell (Ex-Mt), 65 Roberts (Ex), 80 Kiner (Ex-Mt), 92 Hodges (EX-MT 6), 93 Rizzuto/Martin (Ex), 97 Mathews (EX 5), 99 Spahn (Ex), 101 Schoendienst (Ex+), 114 Feller (EX 5), 117 Snider (EX-MT 6), 118 Martin (Ex-Mt), 121 Berra (VG 3), 143 Lopez (Nr/Mt), 146 Wynn (Ex-Mt), 153 Ford (Vg-Ex+), and 160 Abrams (Ex-Mt). Vintage sets in this condition are always extremely desirable, in part because of the tremendous collecting value they represent. 90% of these cards range from EX to NR/Mt, so condition is extremely strong! But they do not cost the additional many thousands of dollars that a slightly higher-grade set would cost. And when you want to sell them, there is always a huge audience that is interested and can afford them! This is an extremely attractive mid- to high-grade near-complete set of this very popular Bowman issue. The SMR value for just five of the eight graded cards (not including the three cards graded less than EX and not including the 136 ungraded cards!) is $1,335. Total: 144 cards.
