1955 Bowman Complete Set (320 plus two variations) Including 45 PSA- and SGC-Graded Cards

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,000

8% Nr/Mt or better, 35% Ex-Mt, 44% Ex, and 13% Vg-Ex (including a few Vg). Complete set of 320 cards highlighted by numerous key cards, umpires, and Hall of Famers, including Mantle, Aaron, Mays, Kaline, and Banks. Also included are two variations (#157 and 204). The 1955 Bowman cards (Bowman's final baseball-card issue) have always been very popular due to their classic "television" style and inclusion of so many stars. The flush-to-the-border wood-grain design of this issue makes them very susceptible to corner and edge wear, and naturally difficult to assemble as a complete set in high grade. This is a very attractive set in mid-to-high grade. Forty-five cards are professionally graded by PSA (except for six SGC and one BVG). PSA Grading Composite: NM-MT 8 (13 cards): #2, 19, 21, 26, 30, 33 Fox, 63, 64, 68 Howard RC (OC), 70 (SGC 88), 94, 97, and 201 Reynolds. NM+ 7.5 (1 card): #57 (SGC 86). NM 7 (10 cards): #38 Wynn, 59 Ford, 87 (SGC 84), 157, 160 Skowron, 231, 241, 246 Bauer, 267 (SGC 84), and 306 Cerv. EX-MT 6 (21 cards): #9 McDougald, 10 Rizzuto, 22 Campanella, 23 Kaline, 60 Slaughter, 67 Larsen, 69, 99, 100, 103 Mathews, 130 Ashburn, 153, 167, 168 Berra, 179 Aaron, 184 Mays (SGC 80), 202 Mantle (BVG 6), 265 Barlick, 283 Chylack, 300, and 303 Conlan (SGC 80). Ungraded Keys: #1 Wilhelm (Vg-Ex), 37 Reese (Vg-Ex), 65 Zimmer RC (Vg-Ex), 89 Boudreau (Ex+), 134 Feller (Ex+), 158 Hodges (Vg-Ex), 171 Roberts (Ex), 191 Lemon (Ex-Mt), 197 Kiner (Vg-Ex+), and 242 Banks (Ex). Overall a very sharp looking complete set requiring only minor upgrading to be an entirely Ex to Nr/Mt set. This is the type of vintage set that to so many collectors represents the very best value. The SMR value of just forty-four of the graded cards (not including the one qualified card or the additional 277 ungraded cards!) is $3,015. Total: 322 cards (complete set of 320 plus 2 variations). SOLD FOR $3,000
