1888 N172 Old Judge Tim Keefe

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $360

1888 N172 Old Judge of Hall of Famer Tim Keefe with the New York Giants in a batting pose (#251-4). Perfect photo with flawless contrast presenting as VG, but downgraded to POOR 10 by SGC due to a small hole in the center of the card (likely from being pinned up for display at some point). Flaws such as this "come with the territory" with Old Judges. This is an unusual pose (batting) in that Keefe, of course, was one of the greatest pitchers of the nineteenth century. In 1888, the year this card was issued, he led the league with 35 wins, 335 strikeouts, and a 1.74 ERA. Despite its modest technical grade, this card would be a worthy addition to any nineteenth-century, Old Judge, or Hall of Famer card collection, all the more so for its outstanding, and essentially unimprovable, picture clarity. SOLD FOR $360
