1951 Bowman Near-Complete Set (322/324)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,700

Mid-grade near-complete set consisting of 322 different (of 324) 1951 Bowman baseball cards, highlighted by many Hall of Famers and stars, and missing only the rookie cards of Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays for completion. 10% Ex-Mt, 47% Ex, 27% Vg-Ex, and 16% Vg (including some lesser). This set is bright and clean throughout, with honest corner wear most often responsible for the assigned grade. We have selected three cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Ford RC (FAIR 20, presents Ex), 2 Berra (Vg-Ex+), 3 Roberts (Ex), 7 Hodges (Gd), 10 Schoendienst (Vg-Ex), 26 Rizzuto (Ex-Mt), 30 Feller (Ex+), 31 Campanella (EX/NM+ 82), 32 Snider (Ex+), 46 Kell (Ex-Mt+), 50 Mize (Ex), 53 Lemon (Ex), 58 Slaughter (Ex), 78 Wynn (Vg+), 80 Reese (Ex+), 134 Spahn (Ex), 143 Kluszewski (Vg-Ex+), 151 Doby (Fr), 165 Williams (EX 60), 181 Stengel (Ex), 186 Ashburn (Ex), 198 Irvin RC (Vg-Ex), 218 Lopat (Ex-Mt), 219 Woodling RC (Ex), 232 Fox RC (Ex), 233 Durocher (Vg-Ex), 260 Erskine RC (Vg), 282 Frisch (Ex+), 290 Dickey (Vg-Ex), 291 Henrich (Ex+), 295 Lopez (Gd), 306 Piersall RC (Vg-Ex+), 323 Adcock RC (Vg), and 324 Pramesa RC (Vg-Ex). One of the great things about card collecting is that the most classic card sets can be collected in any condition, on any budget. This is a very attractive near-complete set which offers an outstanding collecting value, and a rarely offered, relatively affordable alternative to a higher-grade set of this classic early 1950s Bowman issue. Total: 322 cards.

The items in this lot are part of the deaccessioned property of a prominent northeast museum which has selected Robert Edward Auctions to handle the sale of donated sportscards and memorabilia in an effort to fund purchases more in line with the mission and goals of the museum.
