1948-1949 Leaf Gum Near-Complete Standard Set (41/49) Including Six Hall of Famers
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $600
Collection of forty-one different cards (plus one variation, #136 Aberson) from the 1948-1949 Leaf Gum set highlighted by six Hall of Famers, including Phil Rizzuto and Ralph Kiner. This collection represents a near-complete set of the forty-nine "standard" cards (an additional "short print" series of forty-nine cards in the complete set are so rare that "Rare Leafs" has long been a formal card-collecting hobby term). Missing the following eight cards for completion of a standard set: #1 DiMaggio, 3 Ruth, 4 Musial, 32 Spahn, 70 Wagner, 76 Williams, 79 Robinson, and 83 Doerr. 1948-1949 Leafs are without question one of the most difficult postwar sets to complete because of all the rare cards. Overall condition is 15% Ex, 46% Vg-Ex, 25% Vg, and 14% lesser (including some with slight trim). Two cards are graded by PSA. Keys: #11 Rizzuto RC (Vg), 17 Overmire (NM 7), 38 Kluszewski (Vg), 42 Peterson Red Cap (slight trim, otherwise Ex), 46 Mize (Vg), 47 Vico (VG-EX 4), 59 Appling (possible slight trim, otherwise Ex), 91 Kiner RC (Vg-Ex), 106 Boudreau (Vg-Ex), 117 Gordon (possible slight trim, otherwise Vg-Ex), and 136 Aberson Short Sleeve (Vg-Ex). This is a very attractive and consistent collection of cards from this classic gum-card issue. Total: 42 cards. SOLD FOR $600
