1941 R336 Play Ball Complete Set (72)
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $2,040
Extremely attractive mid-grade complete set of the 1941 Play Ball series issued by Gum, Inc., one of card collecting's all-time classic gum issues. 69% grade Vg to Vg-Ex (including a few Ex) and 31% grade lesser (ranging from Pr to Good, includes a few trimmed). This full-color 72-card set features many Hall of Famers and stars, including Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams. We have selected three cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Miller (Vg), 6 Hubbell (Pr), 8 Ott (Gd), 10 Vaughan (Vg), 13 Foxx (Vg), 14 Williams (VG 40), 15 Cronin (Gd), 18 Greenberg (Gd+), 19 Gehringer (Vg+), 20 Ruffing (Pr), 39 Henrich (Pr), 54 Reese RC (VG/EX+ 55), 60 Klein (Vg-Ex), 61 V. DiMaggio (trimmed), 63 D. DiMaggio (Vg-Ex), 64 Doerr (Vg-Ex), 70 Dickey (Vg), 71 J. DiMaggio (GOOD 30), and 72 Gomez (Vg). One card, #9 May, is signed. One of the great things about card collecting is that the classic card sets can be collected in any condition, on any budget. This set is a very attractive and very consistent set that offers an outstanding value and is a relatively much more affordable alternative to a higher-grade set of this very popular prewar gum issue. The equivalent SMR value for just the three graded cards (not including the additional sixty-nine ungraded cards!) is $935. Total: 72 cards. SOLD FOR $2,040
