1936 R312 National Chicle Premiums Complete Set (50)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,800
Complete set of all fifty 1936 R312 premium baseball players issued by National Chicle. Overall condition: 16% Vg-Ex, 32% Vg, and 52% lesser (many of which present as Vg but are downgraded due to staple holes or album residue on the reverse). One card is graded by SGC (Bill Swift, VG/EX 50). This full-color (4 x 5-3/8 inches) premium set is comprised of twenty-five individual player portraits, fourteen multiplayer cards, and eleven in-action photos. The beautiful, rich pastel colors of R312 premiums make them one of the most striking and distinctive of all 1930s issues. Considering how substantial they are, R312 premiums have received very little attention from collectors, in part due to the fact that they are larger than standard cards and that they are blank-backed with no identification of the issuer. A case could be made that they represent one of the best values among all 1930s issues. In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers provided by the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards checklist. Keys: #1 Allen (Ex), 10 Hartnett/Herman (Vg), 11 Hack/Herman (Gd), 12 Cochrane (Gd), 15 Cronin/Harris (Gd/Vg), 17 Cuyler (Fr), 18 Cuyler/Speaker (Vg), 19 Dickey (Pr), 20 DiMaggio (Pr; it is interesting to note DiMaggio’s name is misspelled “DiMagio” on this card), 22 Ferrell (Pr), 23 Goslin (Fr), 24 Foxx (Pr), 26 Traynor (Fr), 27 Gomez (Vg-Ex), 28 Greenberg (Pr), 29 Grove/Mack (Fr), 32 Hartnett/Cochrane (Ex), 33 Hartnett (Pr), 34 Hornsby (Fr), 35 Hornsby (Gd), 36 Lombardi (Vg), 37 Lopez (Vg), 38 Martin (Pr), 39 Mize (Pr), 43 Ruffing (Vg), 45 Stengel (Vg), 48 Wagner/Vaughan (Vg), and 49 Waners (trimmed). A relatively affordable complete set of these classic 1930s premiums. SOLD FOR $1,800
