1933 R305 Tattoo Orbit Jimmy Foxx SGC NM 84

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $840

Graded NM 84 by SGC. One of only two examples graded at this level with just two grading higher (both NM+ 86). Extremely high-grade example of Hall of Famer Jimmy Foxx of the Philadelphia Athletics from the 1933 R305 Tattoo Orbit set. The Tattoo Orbit set does not get quite the same amount of attention as the more common Goudey issues of the 1930s simply because Ruth and Gehrig are not in the set, but this is one of the truly great high-quality gum-card sets of the era. Foxx is arguably the key Hall of Famer in the set (rivaled only by Dean and Hornsby); in addition this card was issued at the peak of his career. This is a striking example with bold colors, snow-white borders, outstanding centering (slightly to the left), and only light touches of wear to the four corners. Bright and clean, both front and back. This is an extraordinary card in high grade from this unusual and very scarce (and in our opinion undervalued) 1930s set. SOLD FOR $840
