1933 R319 Goudey #92 Lou Gehrig PSA NM 7
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,300
Presented is an attractive example of one of the most popular of all Lou Gehrig cards, and one of the most classic of all 1930s bubble-gum cards, #92 from the legendary 1933 Goudey series. Graded NM 7 by PSA, this card is a relatively early PSA-graded card, which has been in the possession of our consignor since the late 1990s. We believe, based on the grading standards that are employed today, that this card would grade at a lower level if cracked out and resubmitted. At first glance, the card appears to be EX condition, but a closer examination reveals that it may actually be trimmed along the right and bottom edges, which would only qualify the card for an "Authentic" designation. Crisp and clean, the card presents with a sharp image of Gehrig in a batting stance, bold colors, and excellent centering. The four corners display light, even wear (slightly more to the lower right), and there is minor chipping along the edges, which is not immediately apparent but is mentioned for the sake of accuracy. The reverse is clean with bold green printing. This is an ideal card for the collector who wants a very attractive 1933 Goudey #92 Lou Gehrig, but who is not interested in spending the many additional thousands of dollars an example in true Near Mint might run.
