Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $2,700
Outstanding collection of forty-four Exhibit cards spanning the years 1921 to 1929, with an unusually high concentration of Hall of Famers (twenty of the forty-four cards!), including multiple examples of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig issued during the prime of their careers. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1921 Exhibits (19 cards): All presentable examples, technically grading Vg or lower due to creasing or writing on the reverse. Keys: Bancroft (Fr), Frisch (Vg), Hornsby (Vg), Johnson (Gd), Rice (Vg), Ruth (Pr, with color added to the socks), and Schalk (Gd). 2) 1922 Exhibits (4 cards): Caveney, Doak, Falk, and Fletcher. Grades Fr to Vg. 3) 1923-1924 Exhibits (1card): Pratt (Pr, due to back damage, otherwise Vg). 4) 1925 Exhibits (1 card): Perkins (Pr). 5) 1926-1929 Postcard-Back Exhibits (1 card): Gehrig (Pr). 6) 1926-1929 Postcard-Back "Exhibit-Style" (12 cards): All grade Vg-Ex to Ex. Keys: Cochrane, Foxx, Grove, Hornsby, Klein, Simmons, Traynor, Waner, and Wilson. (Note: These cards look like Exhibit cards and were sold in penny-arcade machines like Exhibit cards, but were in fact issued by an unknown competitor of The Exhibit Supply Company.) 7) 1928 Exhibits (5 cards): Falk, Harris, Ruel, Shang, and Vance (Vg). All grade Fr unless noted. 8) 1934 Four-on-One Exhibits (1 card): Ruth/Gehrig/Gomez/Dickey (Pr). An outstanding collection of Exhibit cards, highlighted by twenty Hall of Famers. Total: 44 cards. SOLD FOR $2,700
