1916 H801-9 Globe Clothing Store #36 Charles Comiskey - SGC NM/MT 88 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $960

Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Highest-graded example! In fact, the next highest grade by either SGC or PSA is EX. This is a blazing ultra high-grade example of one of the most-sought after cards of "Old Roman." The 1916 H801-9 Globe set is identical to M101-4 Sporting News except for the different advertisement on the reverse. Though M101-4s are listed in the American Card Catalog as being issued with various backs, Jefferson Burdick elected to assign the Globe Clothing Store backs their own catalog number (H801-9). Globe reverses are seen much less frequently than Sporting News reverses. The card is bright, crisp, and perfectly clean, front and back, with superb photo contrast, four sharp corners, and dead-on centering. The reverse has the "The Globe" advertisement boldly printed in black. This is a superb and very rare high-grade Hall of Famer example from the H801-9 Globe Clothing Store set that would be a worthy addition to any world-class vintage baseball-card collection. This outstanding card originates from the collection of legendary pioneer collector Paul Pollard. It appeared as lot #379 in REA's Spring 2013 auction, and has been consigned directly by the original purchaser at that auction.
