1913-1915 Pinkerton Postcard #251 Christy Mathewson

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $840

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Rare and striking example of #251 Christy Mathewson from the 1913-1915 Pinkerton Postcard series. This series is closely related to the T5 Pinkerton Cabinet issue and features the very same image including caption design (in 3.5 x 5.5-inch postcard size) as appear on the T5 cabinets. Multiple styles are known to exist for these postcards, including scorecard-back examples, which allowed the holder to fill in a lineup and score a game on the reverse of a player postcard. The offered example is a blank-back variety. Featuring a sepia photo of the Hall of Fame pitcher in a wind-up pose, this card is crisp and clean, with no creases or wrinkles and just a little light wear to the four corners (a bit more in the lower right). Centered to the top border. The blank reverse is entirely clean, with faint traces of corner-mount lines visible in the top two corners. An ideal sample featuring key Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson from this rare 1910-era issue. SOLD FOR $840
