1913 T200 Fatima Team Complete Set (16)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,400

Fatima Cigarettes is responsible for one of the most unusual and distinctive of all tobacco-card issues: the T200 Fatima-team card set. From an old-time collection, presented is a complete set of all sixteen Fatima team cards. T200 Fatima team cards are rarely offered in complete-set form (and much less often than collectors realize, in part because several teams are rare, which makes complete sets very difficult to assemble). In fact, this is only the fifth complete set, in any condition, we have ever offered. The thin stock and fragile real-photo surface of T200 Fatimas makes them very susceptible to light creasing. Many collectors consider T200 (and the similarly designed T222 individual-player cards) the single most condition-sensitive sets in all of vintage-card collecting. The offered set is relatively modest in grade, falling almost entirely in the technical Gd or lesser category. It does, however, still remain extremely pleasing despite the presence of flaws common to these cards, such as creasing and chipping, which caused the cards to technically grade modestly. Two cards are professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC: New York Americans (POOR 10) and Philadelphia Americans (GOOD 30). T200 Fatimas is a set which is not practical to collect in Mint condition. In fact, nearly seventy-five percent of the entire PSA- and SGC-graded population ranges in grade from Poor to VG. This set is also just beginning to be appreciated for its combination of rarity, unusual design, photographic quality, and the exceptional value it represents compared to other far more common tobacco-card issues of the era. Total: 16 cards. SOLD FOR $2,400
