1886 N370 Lone Jack Cigarettes Tip O'Neil - Newly Discovered Example!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,300

Graded FAIR 20 by SGC (submitted by REA). Exceedingly rare sample card of key player Tip O'Neil from the Lone Jack series. The Lone Jack set features portraits of the 1886 Brownie Champs. The set actually uses the very same portraits as appear in the N172 Old Judge Brownie Champ series, but more closely cropped. Their unusual design and great rarity distinguish them as among the most interesting of all nineteenth-century baseball issues. Amazingly, this card came to us from a noncollector who discovered this incredible rarity among family belongings, many of which had remained untouched for 100+ years. It was the only card found! Presenting as Vg-Ex on front, the image, which is a little light, is centered to the right, with light wear to the four corners. Five lines of pencil writing on the blank reverse account for the modest technical grade. A light back wrinkle is also present in the center of the reverse. An exceptional, newly-discovered sample from this very rare pre-1900 tobacco set. SOLD FOR $3,300
