1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes (Type 2) Baltimore Federal League Complete SGC-Graded Team Set (9)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $540

Collection of nine different T213 (Type 2) Coupon Cigarette cards, representing a complete Baltimore Federals team set, highlighted by two variations of Hall of Famer Chief Bender. All nine cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC. T213 (Type 2) Coupon is one of tobacco-card collecting's rarest and most overlooked sets. It is also a particularly interesting issue. Similar in design and borrowing the same images as T206, the T213 (Type 2) Coupon set was issued exclusively in the Louisiana area, and is far rarer than its T206 counterparts. Because they were issued in 1914, they are not only one of the last of the traditional tobacco-card issues, but also one of the few tobacco-card sets to feature players identified with Federal League teams. Their connection and significance to the T206 set is especially fascinating due to the identification of some players (who are featured with the same artwork as T206) with teams different than those indicated in the T206 set. In many ways, the T213 (Type 2) Coupon is truly an extension of the T206 set. The T213 Coupon cards are seldom seen, and because of this receive little attention, but upon reflection we think it would be impossible for any advanced tobacco-card collector to not appreciate the intrigue and unique connection of T213 (Type 2) Coupons (as well as their extreme relative rarity) to the T206 "White Borders" set. This is an extremely attractive complete team set, with many of the cards presenting stronger than suggested by their modest assigned grades. SGC Grading Composite: One GOOD+ 35: Wilhelm. Three GOOD 30: Bender/Baltimore (HOF), Doolan/batting, and Quinn. Three FAIR 20: Bender/Baltimore Fed. (HOF), Doolan/fielding, and Smith. Two POOR 10: Dunn and Knabe. This is a very impressive group representing a complete subset of Baltimore players from T213 (Type 2) Coupon, one of tobacco-card collecting's most overlooked and significant issues. Total: 9 cards.
