1887 N173 Old Judge Cabinet Mark Baldwin

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,560

Graded VG/EX+ 55 by SGC (submitted by REA). Highest-graded example! N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet of Mark "Fido" Baldwin, Chicago pitcher (#15-4), posed in front of an elaborate studio backdrop. This is a magnificent N173 example with an EX-MT appearance (it has been downgraded due to tiny surface imperfections and centering almost entirely to the top). The image on this card is extremely bold, with extraordinary contrast and tremendous detail. Very bright, crisp, and clean, both front and back. This is an outstanding sample from one of the most revered and substantial of all nineteenth-century baseball-card issues. This extremely striking N173 example is one of a small but exciting recent find of three N173s featuring Chicago players (including a rare brown mount) consigned to this auction, all new to the modern collecting world. SOLD FOR $1,560
