1888 N173 Old Judge Cabinet Al Buckenberger, Manager

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,080

Exceptional N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet example of Al Buckenberger, Manager of Columbus (#48-2). All N173 Old Judge cabinets are naturally rare, but this is a particularly noteworthy example as it features a manager. Managers tend to jump out as special and unusual in any collection of Old Judges, in part because of the fancy street clothes (as seen here) in which the subjects are usually pictured. They are naturally a very popular subset of Old Judge collecting. The image on this card is extremely bold, with extraordinary contrast and tremendous detail. Very bright, crisp, and clean, both front and back. "Buckenberger, Mgr., Columbus" is neatly written in pen below the photo, which would ultimately cause the card to grade modestly but does not detract from the overall outstanding Excellent presentation. This is an extremely striking and rare N173 example which would be a significant addition to any Old Judge cabinet card collection or serve as an ideal sample from one of the most revered and substantial of all nineteenth-century baseball-card issues.
