1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Bat On and Bat Off Shoulder SGC-Graded Pair
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,440
Two of the four classic poses of Ty Cobb from the T206 White Borders series, each very attractive but technically modest in grade. This lot includes examples of the bat-on-shoulder and bat-off-shoulder poses, both encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). 1) The bat-on-shoulder variation is graded FAIR 20. Well centered, with a crisp image, even rounding to the corners, and light wrinkling. Clean Piedmont 150 reverse. 2) The bat-off-shoulder pose, arguably the most attractive of Cobb's four poses in the T206 set, is graded VG 40. Striking image with bold colors and light wear to the corners. Centered almost entirely to the top, measuring slightly small with a natural diamond cut. Light staining along the right edge with a clean Piedmont 350 reverse. This is an attractive and relatively affordable pair of classic original Ty Cobb tobacco cards, representing a potentially outstanding vintage-card value. Total: 2 cards.
The items in this lot are part of the deaccessioned property of a prominent northeast museum which has selected Robert Edward Auctions to handle the sale of donated sportscards and memorabilia in an effort to fund purchases more in line with the mission and goals of the museum. SOLD FOR $1,440
