1887-1889 N172 Old Judge Collection (31) Including Amos Rusie

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $3,300

Extremely attractive collection of thirty-one N172 Old Judges, with almost all having images far superior to that normally found on Old Judges. This is an unusual collection of cards as it features almost exclusively Indianapolis players (except for one Brooklyn). Twenty-five of the cards, including Hall of Famer Amos Rusie (misspelled Russie on the card), are skinned and affixed to a 10.5 x 13.5-inch album page, which is how our consignor, who lived in the Indianapolis area, purchased them more than thirty years ago. The other six cards are loose and technically grade Poor (including three with the bottom ad clipped) but otherwise present Vg to Vg-Ex (one lesser). In the following listing, cards are identified by the numbers provided by the comprehensive Old Judge book checklist. The following cards are skinned and mounted to the album page: #13-3, 22-2, 36-4, 49-5, 52-2, 55-1, 61-1, 90-5, 94-2, 112-2, 124-3, 146-6, 186-4, 191-1, 218-1, 227-2, 310-1, 328-2, 337-2, 395-3 Rusie (HOF), 404-5, 406-1, 417-3, 418-4, and 444-1. The following cards are loose: #51-6 (clipped), 94-2, 112-1, 191-2 (clipped), 406-1 (clipped), and 406-3. This is a fascinating collection of Old Judges, the majority of which (as noted) are presented in an attractive album-page display, which offers the opportunity to acquire great, original, nineteenth-century cards at a fraction of the price problem-free examples would command. Total: 31 cards. SOLD FOR $3,300
