1887 N173 Old Judge Cabinet Charles Hoover - Rare Brown Mount!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,800

Graded EX 60 by SGC (submitted by REA). N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet example of Charles Hoover, Chicago catcher (#232-2). All N173 Old Judge cabinets are naturally rare, but this is a particularly noteworthy example in that it has an extremely rare brown mount. This is a magnificent N173 example with a strong EX-MT or better appearance (it has been downgraded due to a small area of wear to the upper left corner). The image on this card is extremely bold, with extraordinary contrast and tremendous detail. Very bright, crisp, and clean, both front and back. This extremely striking N173 example is one of a small but exciting recent find of three N173s featuring Chicago players consigned to this auction, all new to the modern collecting world. This is an extremely pleasing and rare N173 brown-mount example, and an ideal sample of this significant nineteenth-century rarity from one of the most revered and substantial of all nineteenth-century baseball-card issues. SOLD FOR $4,800
