1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Green Background

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,400

Graded VG+ 45 by SGC (submitted by REA). Extremely attractive example of Ty Cobb set against a green background in portrait pose from the T206 series. The Green Background pose has long been considered the rarest of the four poses of Cobb in the T206 set. The offered example has flawless registration, a crisp image, and natural even rounding to the corners (slightly more pronounced in the lower right). Centered slightly to the top. Clean both front and back with a boldly printed Piedmont reverse. This is an outstanding example of one of Ty Cobb's all-time classic cards that possesses much greater eye-appeal than suggested by its technically accurate assigned grade. The equivalent SMR value in VG 3 is $1,850.

The item in this lot is part of the deaccessioned property of a prominent northeast museum which has selected Robert Edward Auctions to handle the sale of donated sportscards and memorabilia in an effort to fund purchases more in line with the mission and goals of the museum.
