1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Red Background SGC EX 60
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,400
Graded EX 60 by SGC (submitted by REA). The T206 portrait of Ty Cobb set against a brilliant red background is considered by many collectors to be his single most classic card. It is one of the most recognizable and popular of all vintage baseball cards. Presented is a bright, crisp, clean EX example, with no creases, vibrant color, outstanding centering, and an extremely bold red background. The card has light, even wear to the corners, including a small bend in the upper right. An almost imperceptible diamond cut is present along the top and bottom edges, and, perhaps related, the card measures slightly short (as made). The Sweet Caporal ad on the reverse is very clean and well centered. An outstanding and extremely attractive EX example of this classic Ty Cobb card! The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grade is $2,500.
The item in this lot is part of the deaccessioned property of a prominent northeast museum which has selected Robert Edward Auctions to handle the sale of donated sportscards and memorabilia in an effort to fund purchases more in line with the mission and goals of the museum. SOLD FOR $2,400
