Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $10,800
Addendum: We have been provided with scans of a card graded EX/NM 80 by SGC that is not listed on their Population Report. The population data has been updated below.
Graded EX+ 70 by SGC (submitted by REA). 1911 T205 Gold Border variation card of Cincinnati first baseman Dick Hoblitzell, with no statistics on the reverse. There are several variations of Hoblitzell in the T205 set. The "No Stats" version is by far the rarest. In fact, this variation card is acknowledged to be the single rarest of all cards in the T205 "Gold Border" series. Though not as well known as the greatest and most valuable tobacco-card rarities of T206, most advanced tobacco-card collectors believe the T205 Hoblitzell "No Stats" card is comparable, or even rarer, than the T206 Wagner, Plank, or Magie cards. Only eight examples of this variation have been graded by SGC (another thirty-four are graded by PSA). The offered card is the only example graded at this level by SGC according to their population report with a single EX/NM 80 graded higher (there are three EX-MT examples graded by PSA). This is a very pleasing example, with light wear at the corners (most noticeable in the upper right), flawless gold borders, bright colors, and a clean image. Centered to the right. The Hassan back is centered 0/100 L/R but is otherwise crisp and clean. This is an extraordinary rarity in extremely high grade and the key to completion of any T205 master set. The equivalent SMR value in EX 5 is $11,500. SOLD FOR $10,800
