1911 T3 Turkey Red Collection (62 Different Including 17 Hall of Famers!)
Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $13,200
Outstanding collection of 62 different cards (out of 100 baseball subjects in the set) from the extremely desirable 1911 T3 Turkey Red cabinet-card series. Turkey Red cabinets are universally recognized as one of the most beautiful baseball-card issues ever produced. A collection of T3 Turkey Reds this large rarely comes up for auction. Seventeen of the sixty-two cards have the Turkey Red advertisement on the backs. The condition of this collection spans several grades, but almost all are bright and bold, with vibrant colors and crisp images. Twenty-four cards grade Vg (with two Vg-Ex), thirty-two grade Fr to Gd (many of these cards present far better but are downgraded due to the card number written in pen or pencil on reverse), and four grade Pr. This collection consists of the following: #1 Brown (HOF, Fr/Gd), 3, 4 Bresnahan (HOF, Vg), 5 Crawford (HOF, Vg+), 7, 8 Clarke (HOF, Fr), 12, 14, 15, 16 Evers (HOF, Pr), 17 Griffith (HOF, Vg+), 18 Jennings (HOF, Gd), 19 Joss (HOF, Gd), 22, 24, 25, 29, 30, 31, 33, 35 Tinker (HOF,Fr/Gd), 36 Speaker (HOF, Fr), 37, 38, 39 Waddell (HOF, Vg), 40 Willis (HOF, Gd+), 42 Young (HOF, Pr), 81, 82, 84, 85, 86, 87 Collins (HOF, Fr), 88, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99 Johnson (HOF, Fr), 102, 103, 105, 109, 110, 111, 112, 114, 116, 117, 118, 119, 120, 121, 123, 124 Wallace (HOF, Vg+), 125 Walsh (HOF, Fr), and 126. T3s are big cards; due to their large size they tend to be more subject to corner wear and creases than smaller cards. This collection represents an extremely substantial start toward the assembly of a very difficult to complete 100-card set, with many cards having eye-appeal far superior to their technically accurate grades. Total: 62 cards.
