1914-1915 Otto Knabe Type-Card Collection (3): T216 Kotton and E106 American Caramel
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $960
Matched trio of very scarce 1910-era sample cards, each depicting second baseman Otto Knabe of the Baltimore Terrapins of the Federal League. All three cards are professionally graded and encapsulated (two SGC and one PSA). 1-2) 1914 T216 Kotton Cigarettes: PSA GOOD+ 2.5 (Mild and Sweet reverse) and SGC FAIR 20 (Never Go Out reverse). 3) 1915 E106 American Caramel: SGC VG 40. Each card features Knabe in the same portrait pose set against a bold red background and presents with strong colors and bold advertisement on the reverse. Each of these cards is from a very scarce and desirable set. The T216 set was produced by the People's Tobacco Co. of New Orleans and was regionally issued only in the Louisiana area. Cards from this set feature advertising from three People's Tobacco Co. brands: Kotton, Mino, and Virginia Extra. The E106 American Caramel set was issued several years after most other caramel cards, but it does share designs with several other closely related candy issues (Croft's Candy, Nadja Caramels, Dockman & Sons, etc.) from the same era. E106 American Caramel Company cards are considerably rarer than most traditional "E" cards. This impressive trio of three Otto Knabe cards from two very rare sets would make an outstanding addition to any prewar or sample-card collection. Total: 3 cards. SOLD FOR $960
