1909-1911 T206 White Border Mickey Doolan Batting - First Confirmed Example with Rare Lenox Back!
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $7,200
Presented is a very rare example of Mickey Doolan (batting) of the Philadelphia Phillies from the classic T206 set with an extremely desirable Lenox advertising reverse. According to T206Resource.com, Lenox ranks as the eighth most difficult advertising back (out of thirty-nine) to find. While Lenox-back T206s are noteworthy rarities for any subject, the offered card is of exceptional note as it is the very first confirmed example of this T206 Doolan pose to exist with a Lenox advertisement according to extensive data collected by T206Resource.com. This card was recently discovered by our consignor, who was reviewing the cards he collected decades (long before rare T206 backs were even on the radar of most collectors) and took note of the non-traditional back on this tobacco card. Graded GOOD+ 35 by SGC (submitted by REA), the offered example features bold colors, a crisp, flawless image, and perfect registration. The corners display even wear (there is a small crease in the lower left), and only a few tiny wrinkles are present on the otherwise clean surface. The important Lenox advertising reverse is extremely boldly printed. This card is of extraordinary significance as the first confirmed example with this rare advertising back and will be of great interest to T206 and rare-back collectors alike. SOLD FOR $7,200
