1967 Leaf "Star Trek" Near-Complete PSA-Graded Set (61 of 72 cards)

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $2,160

Presented is a near-complete set of 1967 Leaf "Star Trek," consisting of sixty-one cards (out of seventy-two in the set), entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA. Leaf made one of the worst business moves in its history by going ahead with the production of its 1967 "Star Trek" set. The entire first print run was wrapped, boxed, and cased, before Leaf discovered that they were not going to receive the proper licensing approvals to release the set. They had no alternative other than to destroy the entire inventory. As all collectors are aware, some cases were distributed, although only a few. This is widely recognized to be one of the rarest and most desirable of all 1960s card sets. As the first of the many "Star Trek" card sets to come, it is now considered a classic. PSA Grading Composite: NM-MT 8 (9 cards): #15, 20, 33, 36, 40, 46, 49, 50, and 54. NM+ 7.5 (1 card): #30. NM 7 (14 cards): #3, 4, 6, 23, 24, 26, 29, 31, 35, 41, 58, 59, 67, and 69. EX-MT+ 6.5 (1 card): #27. EX-MT 6 (18 cards): #5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 16, 21, 22, 32, 38, 44, 45, 47, 55, 57, 61, 63, and 68. EX 5 (8 cards): #13, 19, 25, 39, 48, 62, 64, and 65. VG-EX 4 (5 cards): #10, 37, 43, 56, and 71. VG 3 (5 cards): #1, 2, 14, 28, and 72. Missing the following eleven cards for completion: #9, 17, 18, 34, 42, 51, 52, 53, 60, 66, and 70. This is a remarkably crisp, fresh, and with very few exceptions extremely high-grade near-complete set of one of the most popular of all 1960s nonsport issues. Star Trek is one of the few television shows of the 1960s to survive with its popularity intact (and, if anything, even greater) to this day. (Note: this set has been reprinted; these are 1967 originals.) The total SMR value for fifty-six of the graded cards (excluding the five VG 3 for which there is no SMR and factoring in the two half grades at the lower whole-grade level) is $2,120. Total: 61 cards. SOLD FOR $2,160
