Circa 1972 Karl Wallenda Single-Signed Ball (Famous High-Wire Performer)
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $120
Official National League (Feeney) ball signed by Karl Wallenda (1905-1978), legendary high-wire artist. Wallenda has signed the ball in blue ink on a side panel, with his signature grading "9." Wallenda was the founder of the The Flying Wallendas, a high-wire circus act famous for its death-defying acrobatic feats without the use of a safety net. Wallenda died in 1978 after falling while attempting to walk between the two towers of the ten-story Condado Plaza Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This ball dates to the 1970-1974 manufacturing period and was therefore signed by Wallenda just a few years before his fatal accident. This is the first Karl Wallenda single-signed ball we have ever seen and we cannot imagine that many others exist. The ball displays only a hint of light age toning and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. SOLD FOR $120
