1950 Red Barber's Big League Baseball Game
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $360
Red Barber's Big League Baseball Game (1950, G&R Anthony, Inc.) is one of the rarest of all player-endorsed games. It is also one of the most desirable to many collectors, especially those with an appreciation for New York's "Golden Age" of baseball in the late 1940s and early 1950s. This is a game with a tremendous nostalgic quality! The cover features portrait photos of not only the old "redhead" himself, but members of both the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers: Casey Stengel, Tommy Henrich, Burt Shotton, Pee Wee Reese, Carl Erskine, and Preacher Roe. The box (20.5 x 13.5 inches) displays a few tears along the flaps of both the top and bottom portions, many of which have been repaired with tape, as well a number of creases and abrasions. As can easily be seen, it displays beautifully! The game is complete with its board (Ex), official score sheet (Ex-Mt, no writing), wooden pegs (eight blue and ten red), three dice (one appears to be original, the other two red dice are replacements), and ordering form (with prepaid envelope, Ex-Mt).
