1916 Boston Red Sox World Series and Regular-Season Ticket-Stub Collection (5)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,080
Collection of five 1916 Boston Red Sox ticket stubs, including one from Game 5 of the World Series, each encapsulated and certified as "Authentic" by SGC. While the World Series ticket stub is the highlight of this collection, it should be noted that Boston Red Sox regular-season ticket stubs from this era are also extremely scarce and desirable, especially those dating from a World Championship season. Unfortunately, Babe Ruth did not appear in any of the games represented here. 1) 1916 World Series ticket stub - Game 5. The stub is labeled "World Series" and was issued for "Game 3" at Braves Field in Boston. The "Game 3" designation refers to the third game in Boston, which was the fifth and final game of the Series. (Boston defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1916 fall classic.). The Red Sox played their home games at Braves Field instead of Fenway Park for the 1916 World Series because the stadium had more seating. The stub (1.5 x 2 inches) displays light discoloration (possibly adhesive residue) and a minor abrasion on the front. Vg. 2-3) Pair of ticket stubs (1 x 1.5 inches) for a double header against the Detroit Tigers on July 19, 1916. (The Red Sox swept the Tigers.) Each stub, numbered "057" and "059," respectively, is for a "Tier One" seat. Each displays the pencil notation "Tier 1 69" written on the front in pencil. Each Vg. 4) Ticket stub for a game against the Cleveland Indians on August 21, 1916. Ernie Shore pitched a complete-game shutout in this game, defeating the Tribe 4-0. The stub (1.5 x 2.5 inches), for a box seat, displays light creasing and a strip of adhesive residue on the front. Vg. 5) Ticket stub for a game against the New York Yankees on September 28, 1916. The Yankees defeated the Red Sox 4-2. The stub (1.5 x 2.25 inches), for a box seat, displays light creasing and a strip of adhesive residue on the front. Vg. Total: 5 ticket stubs (1 World Series and 4 regular season). SOLD FOR $1,080
