Circa 1912 Johnny Evers Original Photo

Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $420

Original photo of Chicago Cubs second baseman Johnny Evers warming up on the sidelines. A "Brown Brothers" (New York) credit stamp appears on the reverse. Although no year is listed, the solid blue uniform style shown here was only used by the Cubs during the three-year period 1911 to 1913. Evers, known as "the human crab" for his sour disposition, is best remembered today for his inclusion in baseball's most famous double-play combination, Tinkers-to-Evers-Chance." Fittingly, all three players were inducted together into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1947. The photo (5 x 7 inches) displays a tiny chip in both the upper left and right corners, a tiny edge tear, and a few minor surface wrinkles. In Very Good to Excellent condition. It is housed in a vintage cardboard mount (8 x 10 inches; Vg).
