Two Early Baseball Books: A Ballplayer's Career and Pitching in a Pinch

Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $300

Pair of early baseball books, each authored by one of the greatest players of his respective era. 1) 1900 first edition of A Ballplayer’s Career by Cap Anson (published by the Era Publishing Co., Chicago). The 339-page book covers Anson's life in baseball and also devotes a great number of pages to the 1888/89 World Tour. Numerous photographs. The book (5.5 x 8 inches) displays moderate wear to the illustrated green cloth boards (which feature Anson and make this volume particularly ideal for display). There is a slight split along the top of the exterior spine and minor separation from the spine on the interior. The pages are all firmly bound and remain clean and bright. In Very Good condition overall. 2) 1912 first edition of Pitching in a Pinch by Christy Mathewson (G. P. Putnam's Sons, New York). Light-to-moderate wear to the boards and spine. The name of a former owner and partial bookplate appear on the interior front cover. The pages remain clean and bright. In Very Good to Excellent condition. These are two fine representative copies of books that are requisites for any advanced baseball library. Total: 2 books.
