Collection of eight Dieges & Clust file cards pertaining to orders placed by the New York Yankees between the years 1932 and 1969. These cards were part of the company's permanent files and record the various items purchased by the Yankees, many of which were custom orders. Among the information noted on the cards are the item, date ordered, lettering, description, and cost. Notable items include a 1939 pendant for a Lou Gehrig bracelet, a 1942 Ed Barrow trophy, a 1942 bracelet for Joe McCarthy, a 1942 plaque for Paul Waner, and Joe DiMaggio's 1947 MVP Award (the price was $476). Five of the eight cards include order records on the reverse as well. All of the cards (8 x 5 inches) display heavy wear, including creases and edge tears. In Good to Very Good condition overall. Total: 8 cards.
This material has been culled from a much larger Dieges & Clust collection that was consigned to this auction just as our catalog was going to press. As such, all but one of the twenty-eight Dieges & Clust lots in this auction (featuring an amazing array of fascinating material, including documents, artwork, manufacturing dies, photos, and sample jewelry) can be found on the Internet Only portion of our sale. The entire collection originates from the family of a former Dieges & Clust executive, who, we are told, literally rescued most of the items offered here from the garbage dumpster after the company was sold to Herff Jones in 1979. Prior to that time, the company, which was founded in 1898 by Col. Charles Dieges and Prosper Clust, was noted for its exquisite sports-related jewelry, including the manufacture of nearly all of the World Series rings and press pins produced between the years 1923 and 1956. Additionally, the company also designed and produced baseball's MVP Award, the Heisman Trophy, numerous sports trophies and figural pieces (including the famous series of "Spalding" baseball trophies issued in the 1920s), and the 1904 Olympic Medals, not to mention countless custom orders for athletes.
