Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $240
Collection of ten Dieges & Clust order forms for New York Yankees World Series press pins spanning the years 1926 to 1950. Each form ( 7.5 x 5.5 inches) notes the order date, number of press pins ordered, the color scheme, and other various production specifications related to the manufacturing process. The years represented here are 1926 (includes a crude pencil sketch of the pin on the front relating to the color scheme), 1936 (includes a crude pencil sketch [2 x 2.25 inches] of the pin, relating to the color scheme, that has detached from the reverse), 1937, 1938, 1941, 1942, 1947, 1948, 1949, and 1950. All of the forms display heavy wear, including creases and edge tears. In Good to Very Good condition overall. Total: 10 items.
This material has been culled from a much larger Dieges & Clust collection that was consigned to this auction just as our catalog was going to press. As such, all but one of the twenty-eight Dieges & Clust lots in this auction (featuring an amazing array of fascinating material, including documents, artwork, manufacturing dies, photos, and sample jewelry) can be found on the Internet Only portion of our sale. The entire collection originates from the family of a former Dieges & Clust executive, who, we are told, literally rescued most of the items offered here from the garbage dumpster after the company was sold to Herff Jones in 1979. Prior to that time, the company, which was founded in 1898 by Col. Charles Dieges and Prosper Clust, was noted for its exquisite sports-related jewelry, including the manufacture of nearly all of the World Series rings and press pins produced between the years 1923 and 1956. Additionally, the company also designed and produced baseball's MVP Award, the Heisman Trophy, numerous sports trophies and figural pieces (including the famous series of "Spalding" baseball trophies issued in the 1920s), and the 1904 Olympic Medals, not to mention countless custom orders for athletes.
