1888 N4 Allen & Ginter "Birds of America" PSA-Graded Near-Complete Set (40/50): 6.33 GPA!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,600

Presented is an ultra high-grade near-complete set of N4 Allen & Ginter "Birds of America," comprised of forty different (of fifty) cards. Issued with Allen & Ginter's Cigarettes, each card features a beautifully rendered multicolor illustration of a bird found within the United States. All cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA, and this assembly ranks second on the PSA Set Registry with an impressive 6.33 GPA. This is an extremely attractive near-complete set, with bright colors, crisp images, and strong corners. Miraculously, these cards are free of the technical flaws common to nineteenth-century cards, such as spots of paper loss, album residue, and writing. In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers provided by the American Tobacco Cards Price Guide checklist. PSA Condition Composite: One NM-MT 8: #6 (1 of 1, none higher). Fourteen NM 7: All 1 of 1, none higher, unless noted. #7, 10, 14, 19, 24, 28 (1 of 1, one higher), 29, 31 (1 of 2, none higher), 36, 37, 39, 42 (1 of 2, none higher), 46 (1 of 2, none higher), and 48. Twenty-two EX-MT 6: # 3, 4, 5, 11, 12 (1 of 1, none higher), 13, 15 (1 of 2, none higher), 16 (1 of 2, none higher), 20 (1 of 3, none higher), 21, 23, 25 (1 of 2, none higher), 27 (1 of 3, none higher), 30, 33, 34 (1 of 3, none higher), 35, 38 (1 of 2, none higher), 41, 43 (1 of 2, none higher), 47, and 49. Three EX 5: #22, 32 (1 of 2, none higher), and 40. This is a bright and overall remarkably high-grade near-complete set of this popular nineteenth-century nonsport issue. Total: 40 cards. SOLD FOR $3,600
