1888 A2 Allen & Ginter "American Indian Chiefs" Tobacco Premium Album

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,560

Extremely attractive 1888 Allen & Ginter "American Indian Chiefs" premium album featuring all fifty cards from the N2 Allen & Ginter set. One of the most popular of all nineteenth-century nonsport issues, this very substantial tobacco premium album features the entire set of legendary American Indian chiefs. Included are Geronimo, Red Cloud, Sitting Bull, Chief Joseph, and many more. It is fascinating to note that the great Indian chiefs featured were not ancient historical figures when the set came out, but then-current legends, and most were still alive when this series was issued. The tobacco companies spared no expense in producing these gorgeous full-color lithographic premium albums, which were available only by mail in exchange for coupons packed with tobacco products (in this case Allen & Ginter). This 14-page album (including covers) is in superb condition for any 1880s tobacco-premium album. The string binding is complete, original, and intact. The covers and interior pages are bright and fresh. The front cover has a small crease in the upper right, a light crease along the binding holes, and some very light corner wear. The back cover has a small, rectangular (3/4 x 1/4 inches) area of paper loss in the lower right corner. The interior pages are virtually Near Mint. It is unlikely that some of the interior pages have ever seen the light of day outside of our glancing at them for the purpose of grading. Strong condition for this classic, extremely popular, and colorful premium album, which is one of the most desirable of all nineteenth-century tobacco premium albums. SOLD FOR $1,560
