1947 The Three Stooges Half-Wits Holiday One-Sheet Linen-Backed Movie Poster - Final Curly Short

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $3,000

One-sheet movie poster issued for the 1947 Three Stooges short Half-Wits Holiday. This was 97th and final Three Stooges short featuring Curly as a member of the team. Curly suffered a major stroke towards the end of filming, which forced director Jules White to hastily rewrite the ending. As a result, Curly is conspicuously absent from the climactic pie fight at the end of the movie. The plot of the film was a reworking of the earlier 1935 Three Stooges short, Hoi Polloi, as two psychologists attempt to transform the boys into cultured gentlemen, with predictable results. Three Stooges one-sheets dating from the team's "golden age" (1934-1947; those featuring Curly as part of the trio) are not only the most desirable of all paper from their films, but also the rarest. Prior to this extraordinary offering by REA (which is being conducted over a number of auctions), we have seen fewer than twenty different-titled Three Stooges one-sheets from this early era offered at public auction in the past fifteen years. To put that number in proper perspective, it should be noted that the Stooges starred in ninety-seven shorts during that fourteen-year period. The poster (27 x 41 inches) is linen-backed and has benefitted from standard touchups along the fold lines and minor restoration to a few tack holes along the border areas. Excellent to Mint in appearance.
