1943 The Three Stooges Back From the Front One-Sheet Linen-Backed Movie Poster

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $3,300

One-sheet movie poster issued for the 1943 Three Stooges short Back From the Front. This was the Stooges' seventieth film for Columbia and the wartime theme has them enlisting as Merchant Marines. A run-in with the Nazis and Moe mistaking a torpedo for a beached whale are only a few of the mishaps encountered by the boys. Three Stooges one-sheets dating from the team's "golden age" (1934-1947; those featuring Curly as part of the trio) are not only the most desirable of all paper from their films, but also the rarest. Prior to this extraordinary offering by REA (which is being conducted over a number of auctions), we have seen fewer than twenty different-titled Three Stooges one-sheets from this early era offered at public auction in the past fifteen years. To put that number in proper perspective, it should be noted that the Stooges starred in ninety-seven shorts during that fourteen-year period. The poster (27 x 41 inches) is linen-backed and has benefitted from standard touchups along the fold lines and restoration to a few tears along the border areas. Excellent in appearance.
